Description
A post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Monika Ward in the Yanagimachi Institute for Biogenesis Research (YIBR) at the University of Hawaii. The M. Ward Lab invites applications for a postdoctoral position to work on the projects aiming to define the function of mouse Y chromosome genes in spermatogenesis and male fertility. Using mouse as a model the M. Ward Lab seeks to understand how the individual Y genes regulate spermatogenesis and sperm function. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute heavily to the primary ongoing project in the lab but will also have the opportunity to work on other projects to gain new technical and intellectual experiences associated with these projects.
Requirements
Specific Position Duties
- Perform experiments using molecular, cellular, and mouse genetic research techniques to understand the function of Y chromosome genes in a mouse model.
- Design, carry out, and troubleshoot experiments in the lab, performing techniques required for the primary project and to assist in other ongoing projects.
- Perform data analyses, including statistics and interpretations.
- Draft abstracts, papers, and presentations of results to scientific community and the public.
- Present the results at national and international scientific meetings.
- Coordinate, manage and maintain daily lab operations.Oversee and train undergraduate and graduate students in bench techniques.Perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Biochemistry, or related disciplines.
- Established track record of success, including first-authored publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Experience in standard molecular and cell biology techniques (DNA, RNA, protein extractions, gene/protein expression analyses, cell culture and transfection, and other).
- Experience with histological and microscopy techniques, including immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy.
- Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Endnotes, Prism, etc.)
- Experience working with mouse models.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in bioinformatics and analysis of mouse omics data.
- Experience with chromatin (ChIP-PCR and ChIP-seq) and protein immunoprecipitation (IP, Co-IP, and IP-MS).
- Knowledge of mammalian reproduction, particularly male reproduction and intricates of spermatogenesis.
- Good communication skills, verbal and written.
